An audience-first mobile experience for a global news leader
WSJ and Dow Jones partnered with IDEO to reimagine the Journal's mobile app experience — deepening the product for loyal subscribers while defining new opportunities for younger, more diverse audiences.
Grounded in a UX audit and qualitative user research, the team translated key opportunity areas into a refreshed design system and new features built on it. These included a reimagined homepage with clearer navigation and information architecture that helped readers orient and discover content, a more consistent article experience that reduced friction and invited deeper exploration, and a unified media hub that gave the Journal's widely followed video and audio content a dedicated home in the app.
As the Lead Interaction Designer on the team, I defined the product vision, led design across features and fidelity levels, and developed interactive prototypes that brought the new experience to life. Embedded with the Journal's product and design teams in New York, I guided fellow designers and kept the work grounded in the newsroom's editorial and business realities. Much of the redesign has since shipped, reaching subscribers throughout 2025 and 2026.
